Rock Dog a third tier animated movie that was based off of a Chinese story and the style, while pleasant enough, has a thin story and, at best, so-so voice performances. For adults it might be somewhat tedious to sit through, but for younger viewers, it’s harmless enough.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

| This is a tale of Bodi (LUKE WILSON), a Tibetan Mastiff following his dream of being a rock-and-roll star. Bodi sets out on a quest to persuade rock legend Angus Scattergood (EDDIE IZZARD) to be his mentor. But after Bodi’s father (J.K. SIMMONS) and village are threatened by a thuggish wolf (LEWIS BLACK) and his rabid pack, Bodi will need all his courage — and some awesome riffs — to save his family and become Rock Dog! |

| Rock Dog arrives on Blu-ray through Lionsgate and is presented in its original 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio. The 1080p high-definition transfer (MPEG-4 AVC codec) looks pretty good as one should expect from an animated feature; colors are generally bright and detail is sharp. There were no noticeable instances of aliasing or artifacting so it is a clean looking transfer. |

| The movie comes equipped with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track which I found serviceable. Dialogue levels sounded crisp, clean and clear coming mainly out of the center channel, ambient noises make fine usage of the rears and when the (generic) music kicks in, that’s when the depth is nicely showcased. |
